Custom Uniform Design 101: Colors, Logos, Numbering & Sponsor Placement

Designing a team uniform involves more decisions than most first-time buyers expect. Getting the basics right up front saves rounds of revisions and keeps production on schedule. Here's what Bench Clearers Fulfillment's in-house design team walks every team through.

Color Systems

Most programs need at least a home and away colorway, and many add a third alternate. We recommend locking your primary and secondary colors first — everything else (logo contrast, numbering, trim) gets built around that palette.

Logo Placement

Primary team logos typically sit center chest or on a sleeve, depending on sport and garment style. League or governing-body patches, if required, usually have fixed placement rules — our designers are used to working within those constraints across hockey, soccer, basketball, baseball, football, lacrosse, volleyball, softball, rugby, wrestling, golf, and cheer programs.

Numbering & Personalization

Decide early whether numbers (and names) will be standardized across the team or personalized per player. Personalization is exactly where made-to-order production shines — each player's jersey can carry their own number and name without anyone pre-ordering a full size run.

Sponsor & Booster Logos

Many youth and club teams carry sponsor logos to help fund the season. We build sponsor placement into the initial design proof so it doesn't get added as an awkward afterthought — and because BCF's model has no minimum inventory buy-in, adding or swapping a sponsor logo mid-season doesn't mean scrapping existing stock.

Building a Full Collection, Not Just a Jersey

A uniform is rarely the only product a team needs. Our design team builds out the full collection — jerseys, warmups, hoodies, shorts, pants, even blankets for boosters — as one consistent brand identity rather than a jersey with mismatched extras bolted on. See the range on our Custom Apparel Manufacturer page.
